Guwahati: Repairs for a 14.985-km section of National Highway-17 start this September. The road connects Satpokhli to Raibari through Mirza Chowk in the Kamrup district. Palashbari MLA Himangshu Shekhar Baishya confirmed the schedule after pushing for local fixes. The road currently suffers from severe waterlogging and poor drainage, creating daily headaches for commuters.

Baishya sent a formal request to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 31. He demanded immediate maintenance until the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited completes a separate four-lane bypass project. The Chief Minister fast-tracked the request to the agency. The MLA inspected the site on May 9 with staff from the Public Works Department and NHIDCL.

The tender process kicks off within 10 days. Crews should hit the ground by the middle of next month. Baishya praised the swift government intervention. He stated, "The tender process will begin within the next 10 days and repair work on the stretch is expected to start from the middle of September."
