Assam Tailor Hand-Stitches Independence Day Flags for Decades

Guwahati: Piyar Ali runs a sewing shop in the Kalgachia market. He has spent 35 years stitching the Indian national flag by hand. Each year, he prepares for Independence Day and Republic Day with a steady, quiet drive. He started his craft in his early career, initially handing out flags to folks living in the local char and riverine areas.

The work has become a personal tradition. As the 80th Independence Day nears, Ali keeps up his rhythm. He refuses to chase the spotlight. "Ali continues his work without seeking recognition, making the Tricolour by hand as his own way of celebrating the nation."

His reach has grown well beyond his shop floor. He now supplies handmade flags to Mandia, Barbhita, Mayanbari, Jaipur, Tarakandi, Baghbar, Goalpara, and Bongaigaon. Locals praise his dedication to the Tricolour. He keeps his head down and keeps working.
