Upside-down flag error halts Assam Independence Day event

Guwahati: An official Independence Day event in Dudhnoi, Assam, turned into a public gaffe on August 15. The flag went up wrong. During the 80th anniversary celebration held at the Udaypur public playground, Dudhnoi MLA and Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tonkeswar Rabha hoisted the national Tricolour. The flag hung upside down.

Spectators caught the mistake seconds after the cloth unfurled. Confusion spread through the crowd. A nearby police officer acted fast to fix the error. The officer lowered the banner and hoisted it correctly before the ceremony resumed. After the fix, Rabha took the salute during a march-past involving local students and police units. Dudhnoi Sub-Divisional Administration organized the event, which drew attention to the "need for greater care in handling and hoisting the national flag at official ceremonies."
