Guwahati: Assam Police is now an Offline Verification Seeking Entity. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the news Friday, July 17. The force is the first in the Northeast to secure this status. It is only the third nationwide. Officers can now scan Aadhaar QR codes without internet. This works in even the most remote locations.

The tech provides a major security boost. Officers can verify a subject on the spot. They do not need to access the central database. The system reads the UIDAI digitally signed, tamper-proof seal. This effectively blocks forged or copied IDs. "Being an OVSE will allow a police patrol party to instantly verify a person's credentials by scanning the Aadhaar QR code without depending on internet speed," Sarma said.

This tool helps in tough terrain. Hill districts and border villages often lack stable signals. Riverine char areas are also difficult zones. The system will handle tenant, character, and passport checks. It also covers arms licence verification. Police can now confirm names, photos, genders, and birth dates instantly. "With this registration, Assam takes another step forward towards efficient, watertight and people-friendly policing," the chief minister added. The move aims to cut red tape. Field operations will now move much faster.
