Assam Police Arrest Two Journalists Over Minister Allegations

Guwahati: Police in Chirang district arrested two journalists on August 10. They nabbed Anjad Ali Ahmed and Habijul Rahman, also known as Habib Khan, during a morning operation in Kajalgaon. The arrests follow a report published Sunday on the portal Bodoland Times that allegedly implicated state Cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika.

Hazarika hit back on Facebook. He accused the portal of spreading false and misleading news, adding, "Legal action would be initiated against the portal."

Officers took the pair to Kajalgaon Police Station for initial questioning. Reports indicate the men will likely move to Morigaon Police Station for additional interrogation as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific charges filed against the reporters.
