Assam Plans Statewide Expansion of Commerce Education

Guwahati: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu wants more commerce programs across Assam. He made the announcement during the 65th Foundation Day celebration of Gauhati Commerce College. The school has been teaching business since 1962. It recently earned autonomous status. Pegu praised the institution for its long history of building up the state workforce.

Commerce drives the economy. It links trade, finance, enterprise, and jobs. Pegu warned students to prepare for a fast-changing economic environment. He told them to embrace new tools. "He encouraged them to make effective use of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to strengthen their knowledge, skills and employability," the minister said.

Only 55 colleges in Assam currently teach commerce. Pegu plans to fix this gap. His government will add commerce programs to more institutions soon. He believes this move will create jobs for young people. It will also help the entire state economy grow.
