Guwahati: Assam received the largest slice of fresh funding under the government's Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. The state landed Rs 669.92 crore through the SNA SPARSH platform. This boost targets rural drinking water infrastructure. Tripura also pulled in Rs 5.98 crore during this latest disbursement cycle.

On August 6, the Ministry of Jal Shakti announced the reimbursement of Rs 5,289.09 crore to 10 states. These funds cover rural water projects built during the transition from the first version of the mission to the second. Many states pushed ahead with work using their own budgets while waiting for the program to officially launch. The Centre repaid them to ensure projects did not stall.

Uttar Pradesh claimed the largest reimbursement at Rs 2,711.52 crore. Karnataka followed with Rs 795.74 crore. Maharashtra took Rs 594.44 crore, Rajasthan Rs 537.72 crore, Odisha Rs 221.44 crore, and Chhattisgarh Rs 149.50 crore. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh also received shares, ranging from Rs 14.10 crore to Rs 144.66 crore.

Beyond reimbursements, the government sent Rs 865.87 crore across 13 states for active projects. This includes Rs 90.98 crore for Uttar Pradesh, Rs 47.30 crore for Karnataka, and Rs 30.45 crore for West Bengal. Andhra Pradesh and Tripura also shared in this round. Smaller amounts went to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet approved JJM 2.0 on March 10. The plan runs until December 2028 with a total budget of Rs 8.69 lakh crore. Central assistance accounts for Rs 3.59 lakh crore. The mission shifts focus from just building taps to maintaining them.

"The ministry said the second phase of the mission shifts the focus from creating infrastructure to ensuring sustained service delivery." New priorities include gram panchayat operations, water quality monitoring, and digital tracking. Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil is now meeting with MPs to address local project hurdles. He has already sat down with lawmakers from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha, and West Bengal, with more meetings scheduled for later this month.
