Guwahati: Assam topped the list in the latest round of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 funding. The state secured Rs 669.92 crore. Officials released the money through the SNA SPARSH platform to bolster rural drinking water infrastructure. Tripura grabbed Rs 5.98 crore in the same disbursement.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti reported the moves on August 6. They reimbursed 10 states a total of Rs 5,289.09 crore. This money covers rural water projects built during the transition from the first phase of the mission. States kept work moving with their own cash while waiting for the new phase to start. The ministry stated, "The second phase of the mission shifts the focus from creating infrastructure to ensuring sustained service delivery."

Uttar Pradesh led the reimbursement pack with Rs 2,711.52 crore. Other states received smaller chunks: Karnataka got Rs 795.74 crore, Maharashtra took Rs 594.44 crore, and Rajasthan landed Rs 537.72 crore. Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh also received reimbursements ranging from Rs 221.44 crore down to Rs 14.10 crore.

Beyond reimbursements, 13 states split an additional Rs 865.87 crore for ongoing work. Following Assam, the latest disbursements through SNA SPARSH included Rs 90.98 crore for Uttar Pradesh, Rs 47.30 crore for Karnataka, Rs 30.45 crore for West Bengal, and Rs 10.58 crore for Andhra Pradesh. Smaller, unspecified amounts went to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet cleared the mission extension on March 10. The program runs until December 2028. It carries a massive total outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore, with Rs 3.59 lakh crore coming from the Centre. The initiative focuses on gram panchayat oversight, water quality, and digital tracking.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil is now holding direct talks with MPs to clear project hurdles. He has already met with lawmakers from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha, and West Bengal. Meetings for Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are on the calendar for later this month.
