Assam deploys assessment team to address Upper Assam flood damage

Guwahati: Assam will send a high-level team to survey flood damage in Upper Assam. Minister Atul Bora announced the plan on July 27 following a review meeting in Guwahati. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the deployment to track destruction across rural districts. The group must evaluate the state of roads, rural homes, and community assets.

Delegates will coordinate with Zila Parishads, district administrations, and Panchayat representatives to finalize reconstruction efforts. This mission follows the department's 100-Day Action Plan. Officials reviewed progress on key schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), VB-GRAM-G, and the building of paver block roads for every Gaon Panchayat. They also assessed the Tea Garden Roads project.

Bora pushed his staff to move faster. He said officials must work with "greater urgency and commitment to ensure timely restoration of rural infrastructure and accelerate inclusive development across Assam."

The meeting covered the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission. Bora highlighted how Self-Help Groups support women and boost local economies. Additional Chief Secretary B. Kalyan Chakravarthy and Commissioner Keerthi Jalli attended the session alongside other departmental officers to lock in these development goals.
