Guwahati: The Assam Police Criminal Investigation Department launched a major crackdown on a suspected flood relief fundraising racket. Nearly 50 social media accounts face investigation for soliciting money under the guise of helping flood victims. Scammers use fake UPI IDs and QR codes to siphon public donations.

The agency monitors these accounts to track every financial transaction. Officials issued a stern warning to those exploiting the disaster. "Anyone found misusing public donations meant for flood-affected people would face legal action," police sources stated. Investigators want to stop fraudulent schemes from bleeding the state dry.

Police demand that citizens verify the legitimacy of any organization before sending cash. Do not trust unverified online accounts. Report suspicious activity to the cyber cell immediately.

The department also released strict guidelines for content creators and digital platforms. They must stop sharing unblurred photos or identifying details of flood-affected children. This prevents potential cybercrime and protects the privacy of vulnerable minors. The CID aims to curb illegal fundraising while pushing for ethical reporting standards across Assam.
