Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh University organized a 5.5-km mini marathon in Pasighat on Sunday, September 13. Despite light rain, 209 runners from East Siang district competed in the event. The race serves as a prelude to a grand finale scheduled for October 7 to 9, 2026. This initiative is part of a month-long celebration sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.
BJP state president Kaling Moyong flagged off the racers at 5:45 am from Gandhi Chowk. The pack finished at the university entrance. BIB numbers 76, 37, and 91 swept the men's podium. For the women, BIB numbers 92, 177, and 216 took the top spots. Cash prizes for these winners will be awarded during the October 7 event. Every finisher will receive an e-certificate.
Moyong spoke on the history of the song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He said the song, "continues to inspire nation-building." He urged the youth to focus on creating a self-reliant economy. APU Registrar Narmi Darang pushed for daily fitness. She also recruited attendees for the upcoming September 19 river cleaning drive along the Siang.
Organized by the Department of Mass Communication and NGO Trigonometry, the event saw attendance from local administration, faculty, and students. Future planned activities include a national seminar, plantation drives, and cultural exhibitions. Dr. Yab Rajiv Camdir and Dr. Kombong Darang oversaw the coordination of the marathon and surrounding festivities.
