Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly gathered Tuesday, September 8, to honor the life of former MLA Talong Taggu. He died at his home in Aalo on March 19 after a long illness. The house held two minutes of silence for him.
Speaker Tesam Pongte led the tribute. He praised the former representative for his role in building the state's early democratic and administrative systems. Pongte stated the state lost a "great leader" when Taggu passed away.
Taggu was a veteran and a reformer. Born in Molong village, he first joined the Assam Rifles and finished his military career as a Subedar Major. He later served as vice-president of the Along North Zilla Parishad from 1969 to 1977. He moved into state politics in 1980 after winning an election as a Congress candidate for the Along North constituency.
His colleagues remembered him as a public servant who worked for the people beyond his political duties. During his term as MLA, he oversaw the creation of the Yomcha sub-divisional headquarters in 1982. He also drove various educational and administrative programs across the region.
