Anti-Erosion Work Begins at Assam's Rangagara Tea Estate

Guwahati: Authorities started anti-erosion work at the Rangagara Tea Estate in Tinsukia, Assam. Workers are laying geo-bags along the riverbank to save the factory. The site faced destruction for years. Erosion finally triggered government action.

Makum MLA Sanjoy Kishan brought the issue to the floor of the Assam Legislative Assembly. He demanded a fix for land compensation disputes to clear the path for repairs. Kishan confirmed the Water Resources Department has "started erosion-control work using geo-bags" after his intervention in the house. He noted the factory faced danger "for a long time."

Water Resources Minister Sushanta Borgohain is overseeing the project. The department plans to finish the work in phases to stop the river from encroaching further. Local residents expect the measures to protect both the factory and nearby homes. Kishan hopes the plan will "provide a lasting solution" to the persistent threat.
