Assam Launches Registration for Bhupen Hazarika Centenary Ceremony

Shillong: The Assam government opened an online portal on Friday for the closing ceremony of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary. The event takes place November 29 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the musical tribute, which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees must arrive by 5 p.m. for security checks.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the registration process in Dispur. Adorers of the cultural icon from India and abroad can sign up. Applicants verify their mobile numbers with an OTP and submit personal details plus an Aadhaar card copy. The state government warned that registration does not guarantee entry. Scrutiny and security verification are mandatory. Selected applicants may download e-passes starting at 12 noon on November 12. The portal closes November 20 or earlier if capacity reaches the 5,000-person limit.

E-passes are personal and non-transferable. Each pass includes a QR code that requires a selfie-based verification scan. Guests must present this QR code and original photo identification at the gate. While entry is free, the government provides no travel or lodging support. Regarding the logistics, Chief Minister Sarma said, "entry to the programme would be completely free of cost." The ceremony features leading national and Assamese artistes. Prime Minister Modi will also present the Bhupen Hazarika National Award to singer Usha Mangeshkar.
