Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma toured Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Sunday, September 27. He arrived to oversee the final push for the grand closing ceremony of the year-long birth centenary celebration for Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to attend the November 29 event. It is a big show.
Sarma reviewed all event logistics alongside senior officials. The program will feature a dedicated exhibition detailing Hazarika’s life as a composer, filmmaker, and singer. Displays will highlight his reach across linguistic borders and his focus on national unity, fraternity, and social harmony. Organizers intend to honor his artistic journey and his massive influence on Indian music.
Sarma posted on X that the state government wants a tribute fitting for the legend. He wrote, "The state government was working to organise a tribute that would be worthy of Hazarika’s legacy."
The finale draws cultural icons and admirers from across the nation to honor the artist. The event also promotes the broader cultural heritage of Assam. Key officials joined the Chief Minister for the walkthrough: Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Commissioner and Secretary of Information and Public Relations Padmapani Bora, Assam Bhawan Resident Commissioner Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi, and Director of Information and Public Relations Manabendra Dev Ray.
