Delhi to Host Final Bhupen Hazarika Centenary Celebration

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the final event for the Bhupen Hazarika birth centenary. It hits the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on November 29. Performers from across India will gather to honor the musician.

Hazarika’s legacy remains strong. "Artistes from Assam and across India" will unite for the show, Sarma wrote online. The year-long celebration kicked off last year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a special tribute program. Modi released a commemorative Rs 100 coin from the Reserve Bank of India and a biography titled Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.

Born on September 8, 1926, in Sadiya, Tinsukia district, Hazarika mastered Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi music. He worked as a singer, composer, lyricist, and filmmaker. He passed away in Mumbai on November 5, 2011, at age 85. The government posthumously awarded him the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
