Shillong: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya hosted a musical tribute for Dr. Bhupen Hazarika today. The event in the Central Auditorium marked the 100th birth anniversary of the cultural icon. Faculty members opened the morning with a welcome song before students from the USTM Cultural Forum took the stage. They performed a series of classic works to honor the late singer, composer, and filmmaker.
Author-in-Residence Mayur Bora addressed the crowd. He examined the artist's life and his songs focused on the dignity of labour. Bora noted that Hazarika gave the Northeast a global stage. The musician "sang songs about dignity of labour."
Renowned musician Kamal Kataki provided a musical address to round out the tributes. Students also performed a traditional dance to highlight the maestro's artistic impact. The entire USTM community finished the ceremony by singing Manuhe Manuhor Babe. The performance stood as a collective salute to a towering figure in Indian culture.
