Ajmal Demands 10,000 Crore Flood Relief for Assam

Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal wants a 10,000 crore relief package for Assam. The AIUDF president addressed a crowd at Jogighopa in the Bongaigaon district on August 6. He demanded that the central government declare the state floods a national disaster. Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to visit the region, according to Ajmal.

He criticized the government for only offering empty visits. "Ministers should not come to Assam just to witness the floods. Their visit alone will not help. Assam needs a Rs 10,000 crore package, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must visit the flood-hit areas," Ajmal said. He also wants 10 lakh rupees in compensation for every family to help them rebuild.

The AIUDF head noted that the crisis in Sivasagar brought communities together. He vowed to block any efforts to split Hindus and Muslims. "The Sivasagar floods have united the people of Assam. Hindus and Muslims have stood together. Even now, some people are trying to divide Hindus and Muslims, but I will not allow that to happen."

Ajmal laid out his party's relief plan. He promised 50,000 new houses for displaced residents. His plan also includes five lakh mekhela chadors for local women and 50 lakh rupees for student financial aid. He noted that his team already delivered three crore rupees worth of medicine to the area. He dropped a warning ahead of the coming assembly polls, saying, "Hum tujhe yaad rakhenge, election toh phir aayega."
