Adani Power to Build Rs 48,000 Crore Plant in Assam

Guwahati: Assam will boost its grid with a 3,200 MW thermal power plant in Chapar, Dhubri district. Adani Power is spearheading the massive project. The venture carries a price tag of Rs 48,000 crore. Officials plan to lay the foundation stone on September 20.

The facility features four separate 800 MW units spread across 585 hectares of land, pulling from both private and government holdings. Documents submitted to the Centre's Expert Appraisal Committee confirm the site details. The state aims to slash its reliance on imported electricity by pumping up domestic production. One official noted, "The project is expected to generate more than 20,000 jobs during the construction phase and over 5,000 jobs once operational."

Construction creates work. Jobs are coming. The Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Limited is already building the necessary backbone to move the power. This infrastructure includes a 400 kV Chapar-Rangia transmission line and several major substations to handle the massive load.
