Kohima: An egret that flew into the Zunheboto Media Office was rescued and returned to the wild following a collaborative effort between journalists and the Forest Department. The bird entered the office on the evening of June 19 while staff members were busy preparing news reports.
Lomito H Assumi safely captured the bird, allowing the team to keep it secure overnight. They contacted the Forest Department the following day to facilitate a professional assessment of the animal.
Divisional Forest Officer Obed Bohovi Swu confirmed the bird was in excellent condition after a medical check. Swu explained the release process, stating, "Since it was fit and healthy, we released it at the Langki River in the Ghosü Wildlife Bird Sanctuary at Ghukiye village under Zunheboto district."
Forest officials commended the media team for their quick response. They emphasized that public cooperation remains vital for wildlife conservation efforts, especially when animals stray into human-populated areas.
