Shillong: The VPP State Youth Wing wants an immediate freeze on B.Sc Nursing admissions at NEIGRIHMS. They claim Meghalaya students lost fair opportunities for twenty years because the institute lacks a state quota. The group scrutinized the 2026-27 merit list and found it packed with outsiders.
Marbud Dkhar, president of the VPP State Youth Wing, said of the 53 candidates called for counselling, more than 40 are men from outside Meghalaya. The group met with the Dean of Academics, A. Mishra, to demand a shutdown of the current process. The Dean reportedly raised these concerns with the institute Director and Deputy Director.
In a letter to the Director, the wing pointed out this grievance traces back to the college opening in 2006. Dkhar stated, "The admission process must be stayed until a clear quota for Meghalaya students is established." They want a local reservation policy like other central institutions in the state.
The group also questioned the high number of male candidates from outside the state, arguing the makeup could cause issues for a nursing facility serving female patients. The youth wing plans to keep pressure on the NEIGRIHMS Director and will seek help from the Tura Lok Sabha MP.
