Kohima: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya has unveiled a new scholarship initiative targeting 50 students from Nagaland. Announced during a press conference in Dimapur, the program aims to foster regional participation and provide financial relief to high-achieving local students.
Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque detailed that the awards are split into three tiers. Ten top-performing students will receive full scholarships covering all academic fees. An additional 15 students will earn a 50 percent tuition waiver, while 25 others will receive a monthly stipend of 2,000 rupees to assist with general educational costs. These awards will be granted on a merit-cum-means basis to ensure aid reaches those from modest financial backgrounds.
Recipients must maintain strong academic records and meet an 85 percent attendance threshold to retain their benefits. To qualify, applicants from Nagaland must hold at least 80 percent marks in their previous qualifying examinations. USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. G.D. Sharma emphasized the university's commitment to removing financial barriers, stating, "The university’s focus on inclusive, student centric education, ensuring financial constraints do not hinder access to higher studies."
The university also plans to implement a dedicated scholarship test for both 10+2 and graduate students starting next year. Beyond financial aid, the institution is highlighting its recent academic successes, including having two faculty members ranked among the top 5 percent of scientists globally. Prospective students can find application details on the university website or reach out via phone for assistance.
These announcements coincide with the Institutional Excellence Award event taking place on June 20 at Town Hall, Dimapur. The ceremony will feature the recognition of NBSE HSSLC top achievers and include a presentation regarding the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
