Kohima: The United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) has rejected the latest response from Nagaland's Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, labeling it as highly unsatisfactory. The organization remains committed to its ongoing agitation until the government addresses the severe shortage of medical personnel and facilities within the Longkhim-Chare area.
In a formal rejoinder to the Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, the USSC insisted that all five Primary Health Centres and the Community Health Centre in the region must be staffed to their full sanctioned capacity. The group argued that filling nursing positions is insufficient while the area faces a critical lack of Senior Medical Officers and Medical Officers. Furthermore, the conference expressed that it was "deeply pained and dismayed" by the department's admission that doctors were transferred out of the region without any immediate replacements.
The department had suggested that vacancies would only be filled following upcoming departmental promotions and the conclusion of Nagaland Public Service Commission recruitment. The USSC dismissed this explanation as unacceptable, asserting that the lives of local citizens cannot wait for lengthy administrative procedures to resolve. The conference warned that it holds the department solely responsible for any negative outcomes resulting from these healthcare gaps. Unless the government deploys appropriate medical staff and provides necessary facilities, the USSC plans to continue its protest and may pursue legal action to protect the fundamental rights of the public.
