Kohima: The Tuensang Forest Division marked Wildlife Week 2026 this Monday in Nakshou village. The event fell under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya Nagaland Project. Officials aimed to push for better biodiversity protection and active community involvement in sustainable forest care. Ngaku Somba, FGD, chaired the proceedings, which opened with an invocation from Pastor B. Akhong. Nakshou Village Council Chairman Akhang Jongshi provided the welcome address.
Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Prabhat Kumar, IFS, took the stage for the keynote. He told the crowd that protecting regional biodiversity is a primary goal. He said, "He emphasised the need for collective responsibility and stronger community participation in safeguarding forests and wildlife for future generations."
Attendees participated in poster-making contests and a Best CCA Conservation Display. These events highlighted ongoing local initiatives. The CCA Committee also gave a presentation on the project impact, showing measurable outcomes from their community-based work. Organizers announced winners and handed out prizes to wrap up the competitive portion of the day. Sichola, FcOM, gave the closing note, and Mungla, APW, offered a final benediction. The day ended with a shared lunch and group photos, reinforcing a common commitment to the local environment.
