Kohima: The Tuensang Forest Division brought its Environmental and Wildlife Sensitization Programme to Yali Village. The project operates under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya initiative. Attendees started the day with a guided nature walk. They learned to spot local plants, animals, and wildlife markers in the forest. Bokashe Kinni chaired the indoor session that followed the trek.
L. Ngaku, the head GB, asked for better coordination between the village and state departments. Range Forest Officer Menya Wongto praised the village for its work with Community Conservation Areas and Self Help Groups. He teased future rewards for the top performers. "Trust and cooperation as vital for success," Wongto said during the meeting. Pastor A. Thungpang of YBC confirmed that local churches now preach wildlife protection alongside the village council.
Yali Village Council Chairman M. Malem confirmed the town uses customary laws to punish illegal hunting. S. Sangpa, the chairman of the Community Conservation Area, reported revenue gains from recent Micro Plan initiatives. He plans to start a new Self Help Group soon. Kundang Lemla spoke for the women of the village. She argued that women must play a bigger role in protecting the local woods.
Forester II Tiakaba Chang led a technical talk on crime. He broke down the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and the Biodiversity Act of 2002. He warned residents that Article 371(A) does not allow for reckless resource plundering. The day wrapped up with lunch and a community photo session.
