Kohima: Wokha Divisional Forest Officer Suman Shivashankar Sivachar WM took home the Eco Warrior Award 2026 for his work in environmental conservation. The ceremony occurred in New Delhi on September 29. Sivachar stood among 15 forest officers honored at the 4th Eco Warrior Awards and Eco Warrior Conclave. The Indian Forest Service Association and Indian Masterminds organized the event.
Officials recognized Sivachar in the Environment Conservation category. He earned the honor for his efforts protecting Amur falcons and the Doyang Reservoir. He also built strong ties with local communities to boost conservation results. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav handed out the trophies. Yadav told the crowd, "Conservation is not merely a government responsibility but a national responsibility."
The Minister spoke about the rising threats from climate change, forest fires, and water stress. He pressed for a broader strategy linking wildlife, farms, and human settlements. Brij Kishore Singh, a 1976-batch officer from the Karnataka cadre, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other category winners included Prakash Chand Gogineni, Manish Singh, Selvi S. Senbagapriya, Sanjeev Sharma, Dharm Singh Meena, Dhawan Kumar Rawat, Gurharsh Singh, N Jayaraj, Ramsundar M., Savita Dahiya, and K. Karthikeyani. The conclave also recognized Project Elephant and the Great Indian Bustard Conservation Project.
