Nagaland Takes Third Place at Regional Music Contest

Kohima: Nagaland finished as the second runner-up at the Bharat Vikas Parishad National Group Song Competition held in Agartala on October 4. The event took place at the Matangini Pritilata Auditorium. Tripura grabbed the top spot while Sikkim took home second place. The competition showcased talent from across the Northeast.

Nagaland’s entry focused on a traditional Sumi folk song. The team featured Limae Sema, Sulika Chishi, Tonushree Kundu, Sneha Bhattacharjee, Dristi Sonowal, and Shayan Ghosh. Anshumaan Roy Chowdhury provided musical accompaniment. Sumi Ghosh led the team’s preparation efforts. Judges praised the group for their confidence and pride.

The BVP Sanskar programme hosts this event for students in Classes VI to XII. The group singing initiative began in Delhi in 1967. It aims to build teamwork and patriotism among the youth. The organizers stated, "The young participants presented their traditional culture with confidence, teamwork and pride, adding a distinctive cultural dimension to the competition."

Kishore Barman, the Cabinet Minister for Higher Education in Tripura, attended as the chief guest. Professor Debabrata Das appeared as the Guest of Honour. Former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice SC Das also sat in the audience. Other officials included Dr Muneendra Mishra, Dr Shubhadee Roychoudhury, Biswajyoti Dey, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Ganesh Sharma, Niranjan Saha, and Angshik Sharma Biswas.
