Agartala: Tripura has earned national recognition for its grassroots governance after the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj awarded the state three prestigious honors. During a press conference in Agartala, Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman announced that the state was selected following a rigorous national evaluation of development initiatives and institutional performance.

The Sepahijala Zilla Parishad received the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, securing its position as the top performing Panchayat district in the country. Along with this national title, the state celebrated two additional wins under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar scheme. The Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat earned recognition in the Healthy Panchayat category, while the Baikanthapur Gram Panchayat in West Tripura was named a Women Friendly Panchayat.

The central government provided trophies, certificates, and substantial financial grants to the winners. Sepahijala received Rs 5 crore, Kanchanbari earned Rs 1 crore, and Baikanthapur was awarded Rs 25 lakh. Minister Barman stated that these funds will be invested directly into local infrastructure projects and public service improvements.

Reflecting on the success, the minister noted that the government remains dedicated to building efficient and citizen-centric local bodies. Barman said, "the government is focused on creating Panchayats that are efficient, accountable, environmentally sustainable and citizen-centric." To further modernize these efforts, the state plans to integrate artificial intelligence into local administrative systems to improve future service delivery.
