Agartala Women Get Sewing Machines to Boost Local Economy

Agartala: Agartala Municipal Corporation officials handed out 100 sewing machines to local women on Monday. The event took place at Shyamali Bazar within Ward No. 5. Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder led the distribution alongside Councillor Lata Nath. The Directorate of Skill Development managed the gear handover after the women finished a 50-day tailoring course.

Students logged 300 hours of training before receiving the machines. Each participant collected a stipend of Rs 2,000 during that instruction period. Majumder thanked the Directorate for pushing these livelihood opportunities forward. He told the crowd, "The initiative is designed to help women become financially independent by enabling them to earn a sustainable income through tailoring."

This project aims to spur self-employment across the city. The Mayor plans to roll out similar training and equipment programs in every ward under the Agartala Municipal Corporation. City leaders hope these tools provide the foundation for long-term economic growth for the residents.
