Tripura Mandates Biometric Attendance for Skill Trainees

Agartala: Tripura is tightening rules for job training programs. Starting August 1, all trainees in government-sponsored skill development courses must use an Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system. The mandate hits both ongoing and future classes.

Pradeep K, director of the Skill Development Department, confirmed the shift. He said, "The Aadhaar-enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) will be introduced across all government-funded and state-sponsored skill development training centres. The new system will apply to both ongoing and future training programmes."

Attendance rules are getting tougher. The minimum requirement to qualify for a final assessment jumps from 50 percent to 70 percent. Trainers and assessors must also clock in daily via the AEBAS portal. The state will tie funding directly to these digital logs.

"Financial assistance will only be provided to those training programmes where biometric attendance has been properly recorded, preserved and submitted," the director added. Officials want a tamper-proof system for easier monitoring.

Training centers face a strict to-do list before the deadline. They must install approved devices, hire nodal officers and IT coordinators, and guarantee steady internet access. Staff must finish registering all students and trainers on the portal to stay compliant.
