Agartala: Tripura has moved 702 Scheduled Caste youths into self-employment over the last three financial years. Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das delivered the update during the 10th session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday. He responded to a query from BJP MLA Sapna Das Paul regarding the success of state-run skill programs.
Multiple agencies run these efforts. The SC Welfare Department, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, and the Departments of Skill Development, Industries, and Commerce, and Urban Development all share the load. They provide training to grant youths financial independence across various sectors. Every one of the 702 trainees remains employed today.
Paul pushed for more spots. She wants training linked directly to real-world jobs. "The government has scope to extend skill development programmes to a much larger number of SC youths across different sectors," Das said. The state plans to use the Pradhan Mantri PM-AJAY Scheme to drive this growth.
Officials already sent a perspective plan to the Central Ministry. This covers the fiscal years 2027-28 through 2029-30. The state waits for annual sanctions. Once the feds approve the cash, the department will begin training the next wave of beneficiaries.
