Tripura Governor Pushes for Bamboo Industry Growth

Agartala: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu toured the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute at Lichubagan, Agartala, on Thursday. He wants to boost traditional bamboo craftsmanship. He aims to secure sustainable livelihoods for local artisans. Dr. Abhinav Kant and his team welcomed the Governor to the facility.

The visit covered the Bamboo Pathshala and the nursery. Experts showed the Governor different bamboo species and how they grow. At the Bamboo Processing and Technology Centre, he watched live demonstrations of machinery used to turn raw stalks into goods. Officials detailed how new tech helps makers improve quality and commercial value.

Testing matters. The Governor checked out the Bamboo Product Testing Laboratory to see how staff measure the strength and durability of finished goods. "Tripura is blessed with a rich diversity of bamboo varieties, which have significant potential for various applications," the Governor told reporters. He noted that the region produces quality material for fishing rods and javelins.

The Governor lauded the institute for training craftsmen from across the nation. He pointed out that the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission now pushes Self-Help Groups to manufacture bamboo goods for profit. He wants a new assembly centre where artisans can buy processed raw materials easily. This shift would save time and boost output. The Governor also noted that carving portraits from bamboo roots is a unique local art form that deserves more attention.
