Agartala: A National Bamboo Mission team wrapped up a two-day inspection of bamboo projects in Tripura’s Mohanpur subdivision. The group arrived in the Simna area on August 23 and stayed through August 25. Led by Additional Commissioner Kamana Sharma, the delegates hit multiple sites including the Radha Madhab Nursery, Fashion Handicrafts, and the Banshgram Bamboo Project. They checked on bamboo saplings, flowering plants, and various finished goods.
Sharma praised the Banshgram site for its focus on environment-friendly development. The location features a school and an old-age home, proving bamboo's worth beyond basic construction. She noted how the site functions as a sustainable tourism hub. "Such nature-based destinations should be promoted and replicated elsewhere," Sharma said.
The team underscored the need for local youth to learn about green resources. Sharma urged schools to get kids involved early so they grasp the benefits of sustainable practice. She pointed out that bamboo remains a versatile material capable of producing many structures without damaging the ecosystem.
The National Bamboo Mission has cash ready for projects. Sharma explained that individuals and organizations can pitch their ideas to the state government. If the state clears a proposal, it moves into the Annual Action Plan to lock in funding. Officials believe the success in Simna will push more rural economies to adopt similar plans.
