Agartala: North Tripura highlighted its local water conservation efforts at the 9th India International Water Week 2026. District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran, IAS, spoke at the Practitioners Forum on Best Practices held Thursday at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The district focused on three primary projects driven by community and private-sector partnerships.
Chandran detailed the Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra, a district-level program meant to boost conservation through local participation. She also introduced the rainwater harvesting saturation project in Vanghmun, which aims to provide complete coverage for the area. The third project involves springshed management across the Jampui and Damcherra blocks, a venture supported by CML and Tata Trusts to protect hilly water resources.
The presentation underscored a convergence-based model. It combines government intervention, local involvement, and private-sector backing. Chandran stressed that lasting results depend on all sides working together. She noted, "Long-term sustainability in water conservation requires continued cooperation among all stakeholders."
This appearance at the international forum allowed the district to share field experiences and methods for sustainable management. The effort proves how public programs gain strength through community ownership and external support.
