Shillong: East Khasi Hills police are locking down five major routes in Shillong today for the Annual Eucharistic Procession. Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem issued the order to keep the religious event running smooth. Roads will clog up fast. Drivers must avoid the designated zones or face delays.
The Don Bosco Square to Dhankheti route shuts down starting at 9 am. It stays closed until the event wraps up. Starting at 12 noon, the police will block Don Bosco Square toward the Seventh Day Adventist Junction. The stretch from Dhankheti to Fire Brigade Point also goes dark at noon.
Additional restrictions kick in at 3:30 pm. Traffic is banned from the Gurudwara Junction toward Don Bosco Square through Shillong College. The B.K. Bajoria Junction toward Don Bosco Square via Shillong College faces the same fate. These closures stay active until the procession ends.
Police want commuters to cooperate with officers on the ground. "The public has also been advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel." Use alternative routes to get where you are going. Expect heavy disruption across the city.
