Guwahati: Tinsukia district officials halted all pork trade on Monday. A fresh African Swine Fever outbreak hit Simoluguri village in the Margherita Revenue Circle. The administration declared a 30-day ban on selling, moving, or transporting pigs and pork products.
Authorities set up a 1-km infected zone around the village. They also mapped a 10-km surveillance zone to stop the virus. All shops across Digboi Co-District must stay shut. The ban covers movement into neighboring Arunachal Pradesh.
Teams will cull pigs from July 21 to 23. Experts will handle carcass disposal and site cleaning. This is the second wave in six weeks for the district. Ouguri village faced an outbreak on June 9. The disease carries a fatality rate near 100 percent.
Assam has lost 40,000 pigs to the fever. Over 14,000 families across 22 districts took a hit. Officials are enforcing these rules under the Disaster Management Act of 2005. The order warns that violators face strict penalties under "Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."
