Tinsukia Hotel Raided for Illegal Domestic Gas Use

Guwahati: Officials in Tinsukia raided M/S Purbanchal Hotel on Monday. They found domestic LPG cylinders powering commercial kitchen equipment. This is illegal. Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan ordered the inspection after locals complained about the S.R. Lohia Road establishment. Inspectors caught hotel owner Bittu Pal red-handed.

Pal admitted the illicit practice during questioning. The team seized two domestic tanks and handed them over to M/S Tinsukia Gas Supply. The district administration issued a formal show-cause notice to the business. Officials cited the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, as the basis for the crackdown. "The seized cylinders were subsequently handed over to the manager of M/S Tinsukia Gas Supply for safekeeping," the administration stated.

This case reflects a broader trend across Assam. Dibrugarh officials banned businesses like restaurants and tea stalls from using household gas in March. Majuli administrators followed suit in June. These crackdowns aim to protect supply chains after Guwahati restaurants reported trouble getting commercial fuel earlier this year. Authorities now watch businesses closely to ensure household gas reaches the people who need it.
