Three Minors Detained Following Murder and Rape of Nine-Year-Old in Assam

Guwahati: Authorities in Assam’s Barpeta district have detained three minors in connection with the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl. The victim went missing after returning from school on June 15, leading her family to launch an urgent search in their home village of No. 2 Chachra.

Her body was discovered in a nearby field later that evening. A police team, led by senior district officials, responded to the scene to collect forensic evidence and initiated an investigation. The girl's remains were subsequently transported to a medical facility for a post-mortem examination.

The incident has sparked significant unrest within the local community. Residents have held protests demanding justice and calling for fast-track legal proceedings against those responsible. Police officials stated that the investigation is underway and that they will proceed with the case according to the law governing juvenile offenders. A police spokesperson confirmed the status of the case, noting that "further legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the law governing juvenile offenders."
