Student Union Sets June 2026 Deadline for Foothill Road Bridge Completion

Kohima: The Lotha Lower Range Students Union has called on contractors to accelerate progress on bridge construction along the Foothill Road, setting a firm completion date of June 30, 2026. The union views the project as a essential piece of infrastructure for Nagaland, noting its potential to boost economic growth and regional connectivity.

Following a recent site inspection of the Doyang Bridge to Merapani stretch, the union expressed satisfaction with the work completed by M/s JK Construction and M/s Chabou and Co. These firms have been asked to finish remaining minor repairs and touch-ups as promised during the May 23, 2026, inauguration event.

The union voiced concerns regarding the slow pace of bridge work currently handled by M/s N. Chisho Swu and Sons, M/s RenKik-E.Z.J and Co., M/s Quinker Enterprises, M/s P. Mhatum and Co., and M/s Pele Khezhie. Officials emphasized that these bridges are critical to ensuring the road remains functional and uninterrupted for commuters.

While the union remains hopeful that these contractors will meet the new deadline, it warned that further unexplained delays could result in democratic action. The group also urged all stakeholders to prioritize quality and accountability, asking for ongoing public support as the development continues.
