Kohima: St Joseph University in Chümoukedima launched its first LIT Fest on September 1 and 2. The Department of English, alongside the Literary and Drama clubs, held the event at the university auditorium under the theme Words that Echo through Eternity. Students from various departments gathered for a mix of arts, sports, and intellectual contests.
Dr. Thokchom Sunanda Devi opened the festival. She challenged the students to see competition as a way to learn rather than just a way to win. She told the students, "history makers" were present as they pioneered the university first literary event. The university Drama Club set the tone early with a play called Chaos Behind a Successful Programme. It focused on the importance of teamwork.
Day one packed the schedule with singing, monologues, painting, and dance. E-sports also took center stage with players squaring off in BGMI, MLBB, and Ludo. A bread-eating contest added to the variety. The next day featured a heavy debate on the intersection of protest rights and reservation policies.
The Mr. and Miss LIT pageant served as the main attraction on the final day. Sixteen hopefuls walked the stage in traditional gear and formal wear while answering tough questions. Judges evaluated their stage presence and how they expressed their thoughts. H Hanthu Yimchunger took the title of Mr. LIT 2026, with Nguruh V Wilfred coming in second. Jacinda Odyuo walked away as Miss LIT 2026, while Neingunuo Kire finished as the first runner-up.
The festival ended with a prize ceremony. Organizers handed out trophies and certificates to winners from every category.
