Shillong: DP Wahlang, Chairman of the State Food Commission, led an inspection across the Dadenggre Sub-Division on August 27. The team assessed nutrition programs, the Public Distribution System, and the Midday Meal Scheme. He traveled with T Lyngwa, Dr M Tyngkan, Israel Ingty, and SDO C Awasthi.
Inspectors checked Fair Price Shops in Dadeng Deching Bazar, Modelgre, and Bolchugre. They also audited Anganwadi Centres located in Asimgre, Modelgre, and Songadinggre. The team visited Dadenggre LP School, Tiny Rose UP School, and Dadenggre Puri Higher Secondary School.
The commission scrutinized food quality at these sites. While official allocations focus on classes 6 through 8, many schools feed the entire student body. Wahlang told the SDO to boost supply requirements for these schools immediately. The commission declared that, "access to quality food, clean drinking water, and basic amenities are fundamental rights for all citizens."
Anganwadi centers proved their worth. Beneficiaries including pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children receive regular supplies of wheat flour, lentils, soy chunks, eggs, and fresh vegetables. Wahlang ordered officials to keep the water flowing at these locations.
Fair Price Shop audits focused on the Antyodaya Anna Yojana and National Food Security Act. Dealers must now post names of local vigilance committee members and beneficiaries on public boards to keep operations transparent.
