Nagaland launches phase four of school cook training program

Kohima: State officials kicked off the fourth phase of the PM POSHAN cook-cum-helpers training on July 13 at the Town Council Hall in Mon. This two-day program runs through July 27 across Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Noklak, Shamator, and Zunheboto. Nearly 1,900 workers will learn how to prepare safe, hygienic, and healthy meals for students.

Subonenba Longkumer, director of the Community Educational Centre Society, noted the group has spent five years working with the Department of School Education. He said, "The initiative aims to strengthen the preparation of safe and nutritious meals for schoolchildren." The program has now reached all 12 districts of Nagaland over the last two years.

Sr SDEO Nyulen Phom praised the staff for protecting student health. On the second day, District Education Officer Rose Ngulie told the cooks to use local vegetables and apply their new skills back at their schools. Chef Supong Longkumer led technical demonstrations focused on food safety and maintaining nutrient levels.

The Community Educational Centre Society runs the program alongside the Directorate of School Education. They currently manage a kitchen serving 14 schools in Dimapur.
