Arunachal Governor Pushes for Food Security Overhaul

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor K T Parnaik wants more transparency in state food programs. He spoke Tuesday, August 11, at Lok Bhavan in Itanagar. Food Commission Chairman Tarh Tarak briefed the governor on welfare delivery. Parnaik demanded accountability for the Public Distribution System, mid-day meals, and Integrated Child Development Services.

Regular social audits will plug holes in the system. The governor expects these checks to stop theft and earn public trust. He pushed for end to end digitisation of foodgrain supply chains. This includes using GPS for transport, electronic point of sale devices, and Aadhaar authentication for real time monitoring. Technology must bridge the gap for border communities. Parnaik noted, "Regular social audits could help identify gaps in implementation, prevent leakages and strengthen public confidence in welfare programmes while ensuring that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries."

Food security requires more than just grain. The governor wants nutrition security for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. He urged officials to include local millets, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and pulses in government schemes to fight malnutrition. Tarak attended the meeting with commission members Maji Chokar and Ngasah Tanjang to discuss better service delivery for every citizen in the state.
