Security Chiefs Meet in Assam as Medical Teams Deploy for Polio Drive

Kohima: Top brass from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and state police gathered in Lekhapani on June 27. The quarterly Operational Group Meeting addressed rising security concerns across Upper Assam, South Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Commanders focused on tightening intel sharing and boosting surveillance ahead of Independence Day.

They worked to align operational priorities and address regional insurgent activity. Officials reaffirmed their joint strategy to ensure a swift response to any trouble. "The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of a joint operational framework, improved interoperability and streamlined coordination protocols to enable a swift response to emerging security challenges."

Assam Rifles also took the fight to a different front this week. Personnel joined forces with local doctors to run Pulse Polio immunisation drives. Teams set up shop in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh and at the Garrison Hospital in Kohima. They vaccinated 172 children under five years old. Medical staff coached parents on health check-ups to help keep the country polio-free.
