Kohima: Sao Chang College students in Tuensang marked World Nature Conservation Day 2026 by planting 21 medicinal species on campus. The two-day event, held July 28 and 29, focused on pharmacognosy and herbal medicine. The college's Internal Quality Assurance Cell provided the funding. The Botany Department led the effort for students enrolled in Skill Enhancement Courses.
Sixty-four students and two assistant professors handled the planting on the first day. They logged both scientific and local names for every specimen. They also noted the specific medicinal uses for each plant. This gave the group hands-on experience in environmental stewardship.
A webinar followed on July 29. Dr. Ashish Kumar Tripathi, a domain expert from the Ministry of AYUSH, served as the guest speaker. Dr. S. Arenla chaired the session. Forty students and two faculty members tuned in. The discussion ranged from Ayurveda and Panchakarma to the global market for herbal products. They also looked at scientific quality control and microscopic plant identification.
Dr. Tripathi wrapped up his talk with a clear directive: "Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda" (Ayurveda Every Day, In Every Home). Tekameren, head of the Botany Department, closed the session with a vote of thanks. Students will keep tending the campus saplings to ensure long-term growth.
