Kohima: The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute, known as SAMETI, recently concluded a three-day program dedicated to scientific livestock management. Held from June 16 to 18, the workshop gathered officers from the Department of Agriculture and ATMA functionaries to discuss improved health and feeding practices.
SAMETI Director and IETC Principal Bodevi Shuya opened the session by stressing the necessity of modernization. He stated that adopting improved practices in livestock health, feeding, and management is essential for sustainable development in the livestock sector. The curriculum aimed to boost productivity and secure better livelihoods for local farmers.
A team of expert resource persons led the sessions, including Dr. N. Savino and Dr. Tsarila Z.T. Sangtam from Nagaland University. They were joined by Dr. Michael Imti from the Chumoukedima Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Rosou Pohena from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and senior scientist Dr. Kobu Khate. The group covered various subjects, such as integrated farming systems, livestock disease control, and the importance of dairy co-operatives.
To complement the classroom instruction, participants visited the Mithun farm in Jharnapani for hands-on experience. The event wrapped up with a certificate distribution ceremony for all attendees, marking the end of the intensive three-day schedule.
