Pughoboto Board Tackles Health Centers, Sports and Elephant Conflict

Kohima: The Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board met September 7 at the ADC Office in Pughoboto. Dr. Sukhato Sema, MLA and board chairman, led the session alongside ADC James T. Khulu Tikhir. The board pushed for new job card registrations to help locals access MGNREGA benefits. Sema demanded that department heads submit 2026-27 action plans early. He told officials, "ensure that information reaches villagers so that eligible people can effectively avail themselves of the benefits available to them."

Construction plans for Primary Health Centers in Kilomi and Ighanumi moved forward. The board will coordinate with village councils to secure land for the sites. Officials also drafted plans for an Inter-Departmental Sports Meet in October 2026. The EAC Headquarters will lead the organizing committee.

A deadly elephant attack cast a shadow over the proceedings. SDO (Civil) Yitachu Thur reported that an elephant killed a Kitami villager on September 5. The board demanded better precautions. Vinoto K. Rochil of the forest department confirmed that a baseline survey is coming. They will submit a full report on the conflict to the Wildlife Warden in Doyang.
