Kohima: The All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens Forum gathered at Pughoboto Town Hall on October 1, 2026. The event marked the International Day of Older Persons under the theme, The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives. This was the first time the forum hosted the celebration in the Sumi Aphuyemi area.

Dr. I. Pihoto Khala, president of the Senior Citizen Association Nagaland, served as the chief guest. He drew from Proverbs 16:31 and Psalms 92:14 to challenge the notion that aging is a useless phase of life. He argued that modern technology cannot replace the insight of the elderly. "Old age should not be considered a useless phase of life," he told the crowd.

Dr. Atoshe Kiba, a retired official from the Health and Family Welfare Department, focused on health. He pushed for consistent medical checkups, healthy eating, and maintaining active social lives. Kiba also walked the attendees through basic exercises to improve daily living. He urged families to prioritize the emotional and physical health of their elders.

Executive member Sukhavi Swu handled the felicitation of area seniors. Shivito Wotsa, the forum general secretary, chaired the event. Inavi Swu gave the vote of thanks, and Mishilimi performed a special musical number for the group.
