Kohima: Women in Nagaland took to the streets this week to demand justice. The Yimkhiung Women Organization staged rallies in Shamator, Pungro, and Chessore to protest a stalled criminal case against IAS officer Reny Wilfred.
The group submitted a formal plea to the Commissioner of Nagaland. They want the court to speed up the trial for allegations of serial sexual harassment and molestation. The accused faces charges under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
The organization warned that the slow pace of justice keeps the accused free and protected. They argue this situation mocks the law. As the group stated, "despite the gravity of the offence, the trial is in a very slow progress thereby leaving the accused person unpunished venturing with full protection and liberty which is abhorrent to the established rule and law."
Activists fear for the integrity of the case. They worry that a powerful, well-connected official could easily intimidate witnesses or destroy evidence. The YWO insists that the ongoing delay causes the victim lasting trauma and social damage. They are now waiting for the Commissioner to act.
