Shillong: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma issued a blunt demand on Friday, August 14. He told the Centre to toughen its stance on international borders and fast-track construction projects. He spoke during a program in Shillong. The push aims to match the aggressive speed of China.
India previously stalled projects in border zones. Officials feared better roads or airports would aid a foreign advance. Debbarma dismissed this as a failed strategy. He argued that the country cannot leave its borders underdeveloped out of fear. He stated, "Our boundaries are not negotiable, and the Government of India should hold firm."
The plan demands better highways, roads, airports, and communication networks for frontier regions. These improvements must cover Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, parts of Sikkim, and areas bordering Bhutan. Local residents deserve the same standard of living as citizens elsewhere. Strengthening these communities improves India's overall strategic position. The time for outdated caution has passed.
